Baviaanskloof
River crossings, steep passes and a valley with almost nobody in it.
The Baviaanskloof is a long, narrow valley of gravel tracks, river crossings and steep little passes, protected as wilderness and mostly empty. You'll see more kudu and baboons than people.
I did it in a day once, which is both possible and silly. Take two.

Good to know
- A 4x4 or adventure bike is the right tool. Some crossings are deep after rain.
- Permits are needed for the reserve section. Get them at the gate.
- Fuel up in Willowmore or Patensie. There's none in the kloof.
Places change. Check opening times and conditions before you go.
