The Kei Mouth pont
A river crossing on a hand-run pont, the old way into the Transkei.
The Kei Mouth pont carries cars and bikes across the Great Kei River on a cable, the way it's been done for a long time. It's a short crossing but it feels like a border: on the other side the Wild Coast begins.
We crossed on the 2019 trip, watched by a crowd of kids and one very unimpressed dog. Best R100 I've ever spent.

Good to know
- Check it's running before you go. Weather and the river decide.
- Morgan Bay and Kei Mouth have good places to stay.
- The road on the far side is gravel and gets rough in the wet.
