The Nürburgring Nordschleife
Twenty kilometres of the most famous track on earth, open to the public on a Sunday.
On tourist days you can pay at the gate and drive the Nordschleife in whatever you turned up in: rental hatchbacks, motorhomes, GT3s and bikes all on the same lap. It's 20.8 km, about 73 corners, and it does not forgive. Or take a taxi lap with someone who knows it, which is the clever option.
I did a lap on a public Sunday in 2018. I'd watched a hundred onboard videos and recognised nothing. My lap time was best measured with a calendar. I'd go back tomorrow.

Good to know
- Check the tourist-day calendar. Opening times change week to week and closures are common.
- Rental track cars are available in Nürburg. Read the insurance small print twice.
- Watch from Brünnchen or Pflanzgarten on a busy day. It's half the fun.
